Resources for Lawyers, Therapists, and Clients

Many of the questions we receive come from people trying to understand whether counselling is the right next step, either for themselves or for someone they are supporting. Family lawyers often want to know what discernment counselling involves, therapists want to know when a referral makes sense, and individuals and couples want to learn more before booking a first session. We created this page to bring that information together in one place.

Finding the Right Information

Each section of our resources has been written with a specific reader in mind.

  1. Family lawyers can learn how discernment counselling works and how it supports clients who are unsure about separation.

  2. Therapists can find our areas of focus, referral details, and information on how we work alongside other practices.

  3. Individuals and couples can read our blog for practical guidance on relationships, separation, and personal wellbeing.

For Family Lawyers

When a client is unsure whether to move forward with a separation, discernment counselling gives them a structured way to reach a clear decision before the legal process begins. The resources below explain how it works and how it can help your clients, and the client handout can be shared with anyone you feel may benefit.

For Therapists

Many of the therapists we work with do not offer couples or discernment counselling themselves. When an individual client's relationship becomes a central part of their work with you, a referral for couples or discernment counselling can support the progress they are already making in individual therapy. The resources below explain how we can help and how referrals between our practices work.

Couples and Marriage Counselling

This page describes our couples counselling for partners working through conflict, broken trust, or emotional distance, and can be shared with clients who may benefit.

Discernment Counselling

This page explains our approach for couples in which one partner is leaning out of the relationship and the other is leaning in.

Before You Contact Us

There are a few things that may be helpful to know before contacting our clinic.

  1. Email is not a secure form of communication, so we ask that you keep personal details general when writing to us.

  2. The information on this page is general in nature and is not a substitute for advice about a specific situation.

  3. Reading these resources does not create a counselling relationship with our clinic.

If you would like to discuss a particular situation, we recommend calling the clinic at 778-705-2089.
